ALBANY, N.Y. — National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT) staff members discovered while issuing awards to winners of the 2007 National School Bus Safety Week Poster Contest that the previously named winner of the International category is ineligible.
As a result, the second place finisher, Jessica Bryant of Okinawa, Japan, was awarded the top prize in that category.
Anjali Chandrashekar, a 13-year-old from Tamil Nadu, India, was erroneously awarded the first prize, a $100 U.S. Savings Bond, in November.
Poster contest rules require that entries be sponsored by a state, province or overseas military installation. Poster contest administrators thought Chandrashekar’s poster was submitted by an overseas military installation. NAPT staff discovered the error while attempting to purchase the U.S. Savings Bond for Chandrashekar.
The 13-year-old, a notable international artist who has received numerous accolades for her work, was sent a $100 check for her inconvenience.
