Miss. bus safety effort to include more driver training
Under the initiative, which is set to begin in January, school bus drivers will receive more training and public service announcements will inform motorists of bus safety laws. The implementation of the initiative is led by a Bus Safety Task Force that was formed by the state Legislature.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. — A new school bus safety initiative aimed at increasing training for bus drivers and raising public awareness of school bus safety laws was announced by state education and safety officials on Monday.
The Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol will spend the next several months gathering input from bus drivers to determine what information should be included in future trainings, according to Master Sgt. John Poulos, the Hattiesburg American reports. Poulos was among the officials who made the announcement on Monday.
Public service announcements will be released as part of the initiative to inform motorists of laws regarding school buses, Poulos told the news source.
The implementation of the initiative will be aided by a Bus Safety Task Force that was created by the state Legislature.
The initiative is set to begin in January 2012.
