ST. ANNE, Ill. — A man was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs after he was involved in a car crash and fled the scene in a small school bus, Daily Journal reports.
On Wednesday, Jermalde T. Gaines was driving a car on Illinois Route 1 when the accident occurred, at 11:13 a.m., state police told the newspaper. St. Anne police found Gaines driving the bus, and he admitted to being involved in the crash. Gaines told police that he found the bus in a nearby field.
He was treated for minor injuries, and a blood test showed cocaine, opiates, and marijuana in his system, according to Daily Journal. A woman who was a passenger in the car was treated for a foot injury.
Gaines was ticketed for leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, driving while his license was revoked, operating a vehicle without insurance, disregarding a traffic control device, and improper lane usage, and other charges may be added, the newspaper reports.
