Durham School Services in Louisburg, Kan., recently placed first in the Central Area Safety Competition in its size category.

The Durham location operates 19 buses and serves Louisburg Unified School District 416, under the supervision of General Manager Cindy Konrade.

Three Durham locations tied for second place: South Sioux City, Neb.; Oak Grove, Mo.; and Wyandotte, Kan.

Sixty-nine Durham locations from eight states in Durham’s central area region participated in the competition that awarded points for having no preventable accidents or injuries for a month. Durham Louisburg averages about 30,000 miles driven each month.

The month-long competition was held to further promote safety among drivers and recognize outstanding achievements in safety.

“Winning the Area Safety Competition is a significant accomplishment, especially when you consider the volume of miles driven each month,” said Audra Robinson, area director of safety education and development for National Express Corp., Durham’s parent company. “This competition is one more way we promote safe driving at Durham. At the heart of our safety focus is an extensive training program that requires 30 hours of driver training behind the wheel and in the classroom. This competition allows our people to be recognized for maintaining Durham’s high standards of safety and quality service. Getting kids to school safely, on time and ready to learn is our priority.”
