INDIANAPOLIS — A school district here is now joining others in piloting an app that lets parents see where their child’s bus is located, FOX59 reports.

Indianapolis Public Schools is using Here Comes the Bus, an app created by Synovia Solutions, on a small number of school buses before rolling it out district-wide, according to the news source. The district is contacting parents as the app is available at their child’s school.

To use the app, parents need a school district code and student ID number to sign up, which prevents anyone outside the district from seeing bus locations, FOX59 reports. A free version of Here Comes the Bus is available. A paid version of the app sends notifications to parents’ phones when their child gets to school and home, and costs $3.50 per month, or $18.50 per year.

Other Indiana school districts began using the app last year, including Metropolitan School District of Wayne Township, Metropolitan School District of Decatur Township, and Avon Community School Corp., according to the news source, as well as Tippecanoe School Corp.
