ALEXANDRIA, Va. — School bus contractor Huntington Coach Corp. has received a $50,000 grant from the National School Transportation (NSTA) and Zonar Systems.
The Huntington Station, N.Y.-based company is led by President Kevin Clifford, who manages the operation with a fleet of more than 900 buses.
Brendan Clifford received the award on behalf of the company at NSTA’s 2012 Mid-Winter Meeting, which was held in Maui, Hawaii, Jan. 21-25.
The grant provides state-of-the-art, best practice fleet management technology from Zonar Systems. Brendan Clifford said that Huntington would use the grant to finish GPS installments on its fleets.
“This will keep students protected,” he added. “Safety is our top priority.”
Don Carnahan, Zonar's vice president of business development, pupil transportation, presented the award during the meeting on Jan. 23.
“Huntington Coach put forth an excellent proposal,” Carnahan said. “Zonar is confident about awarding this grant to a company who runs a high-quality operation with an outstanding reputation.”

The National School Transportation Association and Zonar Systems co-sponsor the grant, and it was presented to the school bus contractor during the association’s recent Mid-Winter Meeting. Company officials say the money will be used to finish installing GPS technology from Zonar on its fleets.
