BROWNSVILLE, Texas — Former Brownsville Independent School District (ISD) bus driver Alfredo Sobrevilla won a lawsuit against the district and was awarded $175,000 for wrongful termination, Action 4 News reports.
John Shergold, Sobrevilla’s attorney, told the news outlet that Sobrevilla was fired in 2012 after filing a police report against his supervisor. In the report, Sobrevilla said he was assaulted after voicing concerns about bad working conditions. Sobrevilla was fired five days later, according to Action 4 News.
The jury also ruled that Sobrevilla cannot go back to work for the district, according to the news outlet.
Brownsville ISD released a statement in response to a request for comment from the news outlet, which said that it respects the jury’s decision but does not believe that the evidence in the case justifies the verdict, and intends to file motions to have the verdict overturned, Action 4 News reports.
