TAMPA, Fla. — A recent late-summer event that drew a large crowd to the Florida State Fairgrounds focused not on carnival rides and games, but instead yellow school buses.
The transportation department at Hillsborough County Public Schools held its annual back-to-school training at the fairgrounds on Aug. 3. More than 1,600 transportation employees attended the half-day event.
Jim Beekman, general manager of transportation for the district, said that the training topics included customer service and “How Not to Be Confined by Your Title.”
The new school year began a week later, on Aug. 10, for Hillsborough County Public Schools. The large district runs 943 school bus routes with 91,000 students assigned.
