Driver recognized for refusing to allow men to board bus
Deysi Nunez receives the California Highway Patrol Commander's Certificate of Commendation for her actions in the incident, and she will also be nominated for the department’s Bus Driver of the Year award. The men approach the bus and say something had been thrown out the window, and Nunez gets suspicious when they give conflicting answers when she asks if their car was damaged.
LAMONT, Calif. — A school bus driver was honored by the California Highway Patrol for refusing to allow two men to board her bus while she was transporting students, KBAK/KBFX report.
In the May incident, driver Deysi Nunez made a scheduled stop at a school, and the men showed up at the bus door. They told her that something had been thrown out the bus window, but Nunez told the news outlets that she hadn’t seen anything like that, and she hadn’t seen the men’s car.
Nunez reportedly asked the men if any damage had been done to their car, and one shook his head “no,” while the other said “yes.” She saw this as a red flag; she would not let the men enter the bus, she radioed her supervisor and she told the men the highway patrol was being contacted for an officer to take a report. The men then left.
Nunez received the California Highway Patrol Commander's Certificate of Commendation, and she will also be nominated for the department's Bus Driver of the Year award.
