BEDFORD, Ohio — A man and woman here have been charged for allegedly boarding a school bus without the driver’s permission last week, claiming that the driver hit their car, FOX 8 reports.

Bus driver Joyce Kosturko had stopped to let a student off the bus when she noticed that a car had pulled up alongside her, according to the news source. She told FOX 8 that she opened her window to talk to a man in the car, and he started screaming that she hit his car, and demanded she get off the bus. When she said she didn't hit the car and refused to let him on the bus, he boarded without her permission. The door was still open from when she had let the student off the bus, Kosturko told the news source.

She put her arm across the seats to block him from the students, but he pushed her arm away and sat down in one of the seats. Meanwhile, the woman in the car boarded the bus to confront Kosturko. Kosturko told FOX 8 she kept calm and immediately called her supervisor at the bus garage. The police were called and the couple eventually left the bus and were charged with criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct, the news source reports.

Patrick Carney, the supervisor of transportation for Bedford City School District, told FOX 8 that the district’s bus drivers are trained in non-violent crisis intervention, and that Kosturko “handled the situation great.” Kosturko told the news source that all she could think of were the students witnessing the incident, and that she was just doing her job, and that her first priority is keeping students safe.
