GREENVILLE, S.C. — A motorist driving a convertible collided with the back of a stopped school bus and became entrapped underneath it on Wednesday, suffering minor injuries, police said.
At just after 8 a.m., the motorist, Dennis Wade Allen, rear-ended a Greenville County Schools bus with 60 Beck Academy students aboard, according to a news release from the Greenville Police Department. Allen was extracted from the car and taken to the hospital. He was charged with following too closely.
One student complained of soreness after the crash, according to police.
Beth Brotherton, a representative for the school district, told WBTV that the school bus was stopped at a regular bus stop with its warning lights and stop arm deployed. She added that school staff members assessed whether students were able to continue with the school day after witnessing the incident.
Brotherton also told the news source that the district “would continue to remind drivers that between the hours of 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. there are hundreds of school buses on the road across Greenville County,” and that the motoring public should “be aware in school zones and of the buses driving and stopping along your commute. There are children on board.”
