SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The California Department of Education’s Office of School Transportation is offering a one-week program next year that is designed to provide guidance to first-time transportation administrators. 

“Introduction to Transportation Administration” will offer an introductory level of knowledge and required skills to individuals who have recently acquired the responsibilities of transportation administration, or to prepare those who desire advancement into a career of passenger transportation administration.

Topics to be covered include certification of drivers, motor carrier responsibilities and California Highway Patrol regulations and history, special-education and homeless student transportation, school bus stops, transportation funding and California Air Resources Board regulations.

The course is scheduled for Jan. 9-13, 2012, and the cost is $325. Transportation, food and lodging are the responsibility of the participant or the participant's employer.
