GREECE, N.Y. — Bullied school bus monitor Karen Klein is set to retire, but she said that her decision to leave her job at the school district here was not based on her encounter with the students who taunted her, The Associated Press (AP) reports.

As previously reported, a video of the students harassing Klein on board a bus went viral after it was posted on YouTube. Officials for Greece Central School District have since taken action against the students, including one-year suspensions from school and from regular bus transportation.

Klein told the AP that she’s not quitting because of what happened. She said she's enjoyed working with the kids and that she's decided it's her time to leave. She still needs to submit the paperwork to make her retirement official.  

Prior to becoming a monitor, Klein drove a school bus for 20 years. She plans to stay busy during retirement — she may volunteer with organizations that help people affected by bullying or suicide.
