CHESTERFIELD, Va. — Two teenagers were involved in a fatal shooting here on Thursday, and one of them collapsed in front of a stopped school bus.
Chesterfield County Police responded to the incident at about 8 a.m. The investigation indicated that two juvenile males were conducting a drug transaction. The two exchanged gunshots, and both were struck.
Witnesses reported seeing one of the youths run from the shooting scene and collapse in front of a nearby school bus. The bus, which was occupied by some Chesterfield County Public Schools students, was preparing to load more students when the incident occurred.
Police said that no children on board or boarding the school bus were injured, and the shooting took place in an area that was not visible from the bus.
Chase Harris, 17, was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting. Harris was attending evening GED courses at Carver College and Career Academy.
The youth who collapsed in front of the bus, also 17, was transported to VCU Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. He is a student at L.C. Bird High School.
Chesterfield County Police were continuing to investigate the circumstances of the shooting. Investigators said that it appears to have been an isolated incident, and they are not looking for additional suspects.
