LUBBOCK, Texas — A woman has died after being struck by a school bus here on Tuesday morning, police said.

At around 6:30 a.m., Lubbock Police Department received a report of a crash involving a school bus from Levelland Independent School District and a pedestrian, according to a post on the Lubbock Police Department’s Facebook page. Police said it appears the woman was walking in the eastbound lanes of 19th St. when she was struck near Alcove Avenue.

Police told EverythingLubbock.com that the woman, who has been identified as Ginger Barnes, 52, was pronounced dead at the scene. No one on board the bus was injured.

Jeff Northern, the superintendent for the school district, released a statement, according to EverythingLubbock.com, saying that the bus was transporting 15 students to an out-of-town extracurricular activity at the time of the incident. Northern added in the statement that the district "is deeply saddened" by the event, and that the students on board were transported back to Levelland where they and their families have been offered counseling and support services by the district.
