Obama signs sleep apnea bill

The bipartisan bill requires the FMCSA to go through a formal notice and comment rulemaking proceeding when issuing guidance on the screening, testing and treatment of commercial drivers for obstructive sleep apnea and other sleep disorders. The National School Transportation Association and the National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services were among the groups advocating for the legislation.

2 dogs shot by police near school bus stops

Richmond (Va.) Police Department officers respond to the scene after receiving a report of a dog bite with injury. While waiting for Animal Care and Control to respond, the dogs continue to run in the area where children are gathering at the bus stops, and they charge at an officer, who fires twice, killing one of the dogs.

Man hijacks Arkansas school bus

Nicholas John Miller boards the bus armed with a knife and commandeers the bus, driving it from Jacksonville, Ark., to Cabot, Ark., before police stop the bus. Miller is arrested and faces several charges, including a felony count of vehicle piracy, 12 felony counts of kidnapping and two felony counts of aggravated assault. Neither the bus driver nor the 11 students on the bus are injured.

The ABC news segments followed two HSM employees as they traveled to Costa Rica for weight loss and knee replacement surgery. In both cases, surgeries that would have reportedly cost each employee $3,000 in out-of-pocket expenses if performed in the U.S. were completed in Costa Rica at no cost to either employee.
