Superintendent reprimanded for personal use of bus, driver

Eric Becoats, superintendent of Durham (N.C.) Public Schools, used a school activity bus and driver in June to go to private events and paid an invoice for the cost of the bus and driver. He apologizes and says that he was informed of policies prohibiting personal use of the vehicles after he used the bus.

The contractor association will award scholarships of up to $1,000 for educational (post-secondary education) or continuing education (training programs) purposes to participants of the 2013 School Bus Driver International Safety Competition or children of the competitors.

Police seek man in ‘road rage’ around school bus

A Connecticut woman was buckling her 5-year-old daughter with special needs into her car seat on a school bus when a man exited his car and confronted the bus driver. Authorities say that the man yelled about being delayed and “got into the bus driver’s face.” The same suspect is being sought in a similar “road rage” incident that also involved a special-needs child.

Missouri district to transition fleet to CNG

In a 10-year lease-purchase agreement, Lee’s Summit R-7 School District will replace its diesel fleet with 149 Thomas Built school buses powered by compressed natural gas (CNG). The district’s program also includes a shift toward CNG-powered facility maintenance trucks and continued use of all-electric delivery trucks.

Mom accused of punching child’s friend on bus

Jessica A. Brown is arrested and arraigned, and faces charges of simple assault against a child, unauthorized school bus entry, disorderly conduct and harassment. Documents state that the boy told police that Brown, who is the mother of one of his friends, punched him in his right eye.

New York districts to share bus services

Watkins Glen Central School District will provide transportation for Odessa-Montour Central School District students in the fall, which is expected to save the latter district about $100,000. The Watkins Glen district will also benefit from the agreement, as travel for sports teams will be combined when possible.
