In August 2013, Houston Independent School District and the Houston Fire Department held hands-on survival rescue training for more than 1,200 school bus drivers and attendants at the fire agency's training facility.

The training featured mock emergency drills to prepare bus drivers and attendants for a variety of crises, including a wreck involving a train.
