Twenty-one bus drivers are learning the language as part of a program that was started to help them better communicate with a growing number of Latino students in the area. The drivers are learning just enough Spanish to make the students comfortable, such as being able to welcome the kids on the first day of school.

Marietta City Schools has partnered with American Traffic Solutions to outfit 10 more of its buses with the CrossingGuard school bus arm safety solution, bringing the total number of buses to 12. When the bus’ stop arm is deployed, the system’s camera automatically detects a vehicle illegally passing the stop arm in either direction and captures video of the violation and still images of a vehicle’s license plate.
Read More →All of the company’s vehicle lifts currently certified by the Automotive Lift Institute have been recertified to meet the newest ANSI standard covering lift design, construction and testing in North America, ANSI/ALI ALCTV-2011, which is an update to ANSI/ALI ALCTV-2006. In order to be ALI certified, a lift must be third-party tested by an independent testing lab to verify that it meets the current standards.

Authorities say that the man yelled about being delayed and “got into the bus driver’s face.” The same suspect is being sought in a similar “road rage” incident that also involved a special-needs child.

In a 10-year lease-purchase agreement, Lee’s Summit R-7 School District will replace its diesel fleet with 149 Thomas Built school buses powered by compressed natural gas (CNG). The district’s program also includes a shift toward CNG-powered facility maintenance trucks and continued use of all-electric delivery trucks.
