The companies form a joint venture to provide student transportation services in the Hudson Valley, Westchester and Bronx areas in New York under the name First Mile Square LLC. The new venture will build on Mile Square’s customer relationships, existing fleet and staff and First Student’s safety practices, training programs and scalable resource model.

Trish Reed will join IC Bus LLC as vice president and general manager. She will replace Carl Webb, who is assuming a new role as vice president and general manager, medium duty truck, Navistar. Reed brings more than 24 years of industry experience, including roles at Navistar as vice president of business operations at Navistar Financial Corp. and general manager of specialty vehicles for Uptime Parts.

The seats traveled from the supplier’s New Washington, Ohio, manufacturing plant to the Lion Bus facility in Quebec, Canada, where they were installed in new school buses before going full circle and getting shipped back to Ohio. Bedford City Schools is the first Ohio district to add buses from Lion Bus to its existing fleet.

UltraLED’s new H3X LED takes the place of an H3 halogen bulb, common to school bus eight-way warning lights. The LED upgrade uses the existing fixture for a direct interchange.

CHP approval was the final step before the converted school bus was cleared to transport students, and it makes its debut this school year.

Bloomberg awarded new bus contracts that cut hundreds of millions of dollars from a $1.1 billion school transportation budget. Some of the savings came from removing seniority protection.

SchoolWheels SafeStop allows parents, students and schools to securely pinpoint the location of a vehicle on its route to and from school. The app updates in real time with stop/arrival information and includes notifications of when a student has boarded or exited the bus, according to the company.
Read More →Eleven of Perry School District’s buses were featured in the tornado disaster movie “Into the Storm,” which was filmed in 2012 and opened in theaters nationwide on Aug 8. The district got from $7,000 to $9,000 for each of its three oldest buses, applied that money toward the cost of eight new buses, and leased those buses to Warner Bros. for another $3,000.
