SANDY, Utah — FOX 13 reports that Canyons School District changed two of its safety policies after John Carrell, a former bus driver for the district, was arrested for allegedly molesting two 5-year-old girls on special-needs routes.
Police told the news outlet that Carrell was caught in the act on bus surveillance video.
Bus drivers will no longer be allowed to buckle and unbuckle seat belts and restraints for special-needs students unless parents sign a waiver. Now, parents will buckle up their children’s seat belts and restraints and aides will unbuckle them when they arrive at school, according to FOX 13.
Additionally, the district will now randomly select buses and review bus security video daily, as opposed to only when concerns are raised.
