HICKORY, N.C. — When students in Ohio’s Bedford City School District climb aboard three new Lion Bus school buses this school year, they will sit on C.E. White standard school bus seats manufactured by HSM.

HSM supplied the seats from its New Washington, Ohio, manufacturing plant to the Lion Bus facility in Quebec, Canada, where they were installed in new school buses before going full circle and getting shipped back to Ohio. Bedford City School District is the first Ohio district to add buses from Lion Bus to its existing fleet.

“It’s always interesting to see where our seats end up,” said Tony Everett, HSM’s vice president of transportation solutions. “And it’s exciting to see a company outside the United States take an interest in our product, specify them in their buses, and then sell the finished buses to school districts back here in the United States, especially a district so close to where the seats were manufactured.”

Lion Bus incorporates a number of components made in the U.S. in its buses, including The C.E. White standard seats. These seats, which allow for 18 inches of aisle space, feature a thinner back design to improve seat spacing and single-frame construction with built-in two-step controlled collapse, company officials said.
