James Rogan named chair of N.Y. driver training committee

The School Bus Driver Instructor Advisory Committee makes recommendations on safety training for drivers, monitors and attendants across New York state. Rogan, director of safety and training at Chestnut Ridge Transportation, says that the group reviews and develops “curriculums aimed at maintaining the highest safety standards.”

The department receives a Special Achievement in GIS award at an Esri conference. Bullied bus monitor starts anti-bullying foundation

Karen Klein, who received an outpouring of support after a video of her being bullied by students on a bus went viral, launches the Karen Klein Anti-Bullying Foundation using $100,000 of the $703,873 that was raised on her behalf. The foundation is starting a music tour to raise money for anti-bullying counseling, among other initiatives.

Bus driver’s invention targets student crossing safety

The STEFFI Crossing Enhancer is designed to be worn on the back of a driver’s hand, and it comprises a gray reflective arrow on a bright yellow background with an orange border. Victoria DeCarlo, who developed the product, tells SBF that it can be worn on a bare hand or over a glove, and that its colors and arrow are highly visible through the windshield of a school bus, and from a distance.
