LONDON, Ontario — Voyageur Transportation has been named a winner in the 2013 Canada’s Best Managed Companies program.

The London-based operator transports 6,000 students to and from school daily and provides other services, including group charter and shuttle services (25,000 trips annually), non-emergency medical services and on-site first aid for special events (more than 150,000 trips per year), and conventional and accessible transit service (more than 200,000 trips per year).

The Canada’s Best Managed Companies program is for Canadian-owned and managed private companies with revenues over $10 million. It is sponsored by Deloitte, CIBC, National Post, Queen’s School of Business and MacKay CEO Forums.

Voyageur Transportation officials said that the accolade is particularly gratifying considering the recent decline in London’s job sectors. Voyageur President Theresa Matthews said that the company’s strength is its people, so it is a standard to have each employee feel that his or her job is not just a source of income, but an opportunity for personal growth and participation.

John Hughes, national leader of the Canada’s Best Managed Companies program and managing partner of Deloitte Growth Enterprises, added that “today’s marketplace is not just about the investment in the product; it is about the investment in the people. Voyageur Transportation invests in their team to build up a strong and stable company.”

Voyageur employs a staff of more than 1,100 people. Officials said that the company will continue to invest in training programs, advancement opportunities and culture development.
