HARTSDALE, N.Y. — Greenburgh Central School District No. 7’s transportation policy will remain unchanged following the results of a vote on a proposal on Monday.

As SBFreported last week, the district’s board of education scheduled a referendum that asked voters for authorization to shorten distance limits for students to be eligible for school bus transportation.

The proposal was rejected, with 214 people voting against it and 84 people voting for it.

The proposal would have reduced the limits from 0.5 miles to 0.2 miles for students in grades 6 and lower, and from 1 mile to 0.5 miles for students in grades 7 to 12. The change would have cost an additional $361,986, which would have been taken from the 2010-11 operating budget as well as an undesignated fund balance.
