A Minnesota School Bus Operators Association (MSBOA) video that educates the public about school bus safety is now available on DVD.

The association produced the video, dubbed "Stop and Stay Stopped," about 10 years ago and originally released it on VHS.

"We looked at it recently and saw that it's still really relevant, so we decided to have it redone on DVD," Shelly Jonas, executive administrator of the MSBOA, told SBF.

The program outlines common mistakes that motorists make when driving around school buses.

"It covers distracted driving and the various causes that drivers run through the stop arm on the school bus," Jonas said.

There are depictions of dangerous activities, such as a mother talking on a cell phone while driving and teenagers rushing to get to a party. One scene shows a tragic stop-arm accident and its aftermath.

"We had a local police department and ambulance crews involved, and we did a mock scene that we filmed," Jonas said.

When MSBOA originally created the video, the association gave copies to school districts throughout Minnesota for their driver's education departments. Jonas said that the program is also being shown in "55 Alive" driver safety classes for senior citizens.

She added that the video can be used in any state.

"We made it very general as far as the penalties for going through the eight-way lights," Jonas said.

The "Stop and Stay Stopped" DVD can be ordered for $50 through the MSBOA website. Here's a preview:
