WEST COLUMBIA, Texas — Surveillance video shows a bus driver for Columbia-Brazoria Independent School District getting frustrated with and yelling at students, pulling the bus over and walking off the job earlier this month, ABC News reports.
The video shows the driver asking a student to push an emergency button and then pulling over and making an emergency phone call, according to the news outlet. The driver is heard asking for someone to take over the route.
The driver waited outside of the bus for about 19 minutes until a backup driver and a district official arrived, according to ABC News. A school district spokesperson told the news outlet the driver stayed with the bus until the backup driver arrived. The spokesperson added that the driver took the keys with her, left the door open and waited with the bus.
The driver was placed on administrative leave on Feb. 3, but resigned the next day, district officials told the news outlet. Parents of the students on board the bus said their children were traumatized because the driver left them unattended from 19 to 30 minutes, and one parent also said the driver once hit her child, KHOU reports. The district police chief told ABC News that the incident is being investigated.
