Turkey flies into school bus window

In Ashland, Mass., police respond to what they describe as “a strange call”: a 25-pound turkey had flown into and broken a window on a school bus. A few students on the bus are treated for minor injuries by a school nurse.

The Ashland (Mass.) Police Department tweeted this photo of a school bus window that was shattered by a turkey’s miscalculated flight.

ASHLAND, Mass. — Police here on Thursday morning responded to what they described as “a strange call”: a wild turkey had flown into and broken a window on a school bus.

The Ashland (Mass.) Police Department reported that the turkey weighed in at 25 pounds. The department posted a photo on Twitter that shows the bus window that was shattered due to the bird’s miscalculated flight.

The bus was carrying middle school students at the time of the incident.

According to The MetroWest Daily News, Ashland Middle School Principal Dave DiGirolamo said in an e-mail that the students were checked out by the school nurse. A few of them were treated for minor cuts from the broken glass.

The MetroWest Daily News also reported that the bus driver was able to stop safely after the turkey collision, and another bus was dispatched to pick up the students.

According to WCVB, the turkey did not survive the crash.
