SAN DIEGO — Houston Independent School District’s (HISD) school bus fleet was one of the top fleets honored at the Government Fleet Expo and Conference last week.
The district was named a Leading Fleet award recipient by Government Fleet magazine, which, like SBF, is a Bobit Business Media publication. Award criteria included responding to essay questions that covered topics such as how fleet operations exhibit leadership; ensure competitiveness and efficiency; and the fleet operation’s biggest challenge in the last 12 months and how they overcame it.
HISD’s winning application included details on its creation of a music video that addressed bus seating and bullying for National School Bus Safety Week; actions taken to streamline its fleet and consolidate routes and facility crews, saving $11.98 million; and how the district successfully took on bus service for an adjoining school district.
The award is sponsored by Ford Motor Company and Property Room.
