STAFFORD, Va. — A teenager here was arrested on Thursday for allegedly assaulting a school bus driver, authorities said.
On Thursday at about 4:41 p.m., deputies from the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about a fight involving a school bus driver. When they arrived at the scene, the deputies found that the driver was bleeding from the forehead.
According to a press release from the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office, the school bus driver, a substitute, told deputies that an individual who was trying to pick up a student from the bus was not on the list of people he could release the student to. The driver reportedly said that he would need to call the school to confirm that he could release the student to the subject.
The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office said that the subject then got on the school bus and began assaulting the driver.
“An altercation between the subject and bus driver ensued, and the driver was punched in the face, causing a laceration on his forehead,” according to the Sheriff’s Office. “The subject also struck the left side of the face of a bus monitor who attempted to block the subject from gaining access to the student.”
Deputies detained the subject and learned that he was a juvenile and that he and the student are siblings. The subject was acting as guardian of his sister and had been “dealing with a number of serious family issues,” according to the Sheriff’s Office.
A criminal complaint against the teenager for two counts of assault and battery was submitted to Juvenile Detention Services, which did not advise detention.
Meanwhile, the school bus driver was examined by medics and released.
