BRADENTON, Fla. — A suspect was arrested in the attempted murder of a 16-year-old student at a school bus stop, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office reported.
On Feb. 26, the victim and the suspect, 18-year-old Waleek Parker, exited their school bus. After the school bus drove away, the suspect allegedly attacked the victim with a knife. A bystander saw the attack and stopped to break up the fight, but the suspect fled the area.
Police identified Parker and arrested him at his home without incident. Parker said that the attack took place as a result of a verbal altercation he had with the victim on the previous Sunday.
The victim, Trevin Cook, was flown to a hospital, where he was listed in critical condition upon arrival.
A report in the Sarasota Herald-Tribune said that Cook had a punctured lung and was paralyzed, with doctors trying to determine if his condition was permanent. Still, Cook was able to identify the suspect in a line-up.
