HALIFAX, Nova Scotia — Schools here will begin weighing and measuring elementary students in January to determine if they need to be secured in a child restraint system on their school bus, The Chronicle Herald reports.
Under a provincial regulation, children who are under age 9 and are smaller than 4 feet 9 inches and 40 pounds must be secured in a restraint system.
The transportation coordinator for the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board, where the systems are already installed in school buses, told the newspaper that they’re easy to use since they’re built into the buses and can be flipped up when not in use.
