Students help younger passengers during bus fire
Four students who attend a middle school within Tulsa Public Schools assist younger students by getting them to the rear emergency exit and out of the bus and keeping them safely away from the bus after smoke began billowing from the engine. Monroe Demonstration School Principal Tom Padalino tells a news outlet that the older students created "a teachable moment, and that's what we're here to do."
TULSA, Okla. — Middle school students are being praised for their actions to help younger students out of a burning bus last week, Tulsa World reports.
The bus with more than 50 students on board was stopped at an elementary school when students told the news outlet that smoke began billowing from the engine in the front of the bus. Marketez Doyle-Smith, Destiny Fain, Alex Palmer and Tara Orr assisted younger students by getting them to the rear emergency exit and out of the bus and keeping them safely away from the bus.
Monroe Demonstration School Principal Tom Padalino told the news outlet that the older students created "a teachable moment, and that's what we're here to do."
