ELMIRA, Ontario — A Student Transportation of Canada (STC) team here recently helped raise over $75,000 for those in need.
The team participated as a sponsor of Coldest Night of the Year, a walk that raises money for the homeless, hungry, and hurting in Canada.
More than 130 Canadian cities participated in the Feb. 23 walk. Of those, Elmira was ranked 17th for most money raised, according to STC. Elmira participants raised the funds in four hours.
The funds benefit programs supported by Woolwich Community Services.
“Though our team was small, our hearts were big, and the sense of pride felt is difficult to describe,” said Diane Weigel, STC Elmira’s area manager. “We were brought to tears when we learned how much money was raised for our local Woolwich Community Services and the programs it supports. Can’t wait for next year’s event!”
