LACKAWANNA, N.Y. — Student Transportation of America (STA) has been awarded a new contract with the Lackawanna City School District.
Under the $3.5 million annual contract, which begins July 1, STA will provide service to grades K-12, including direct home-to-school routes, special-needs transportation, and service to summer school.
The deal adds to the company's regional density in western New York, where the Student Transportation Inc. subsidiary has operations in Buffalo and the surrounding suburban areas.
“This was a very late contract coming to bid in an area we know very well, so we jumped at the opportunity,” said Gene Kowalczewski, senior vice president of Student Transportation Inc.'s eastern business group. “It's a lot to put together in a short time, but we are already working hard to make this a smooth transition.”
STA will provide routing implementation and will introduce 50 new vehicles to the Lackawanna City School District fleet, all equipped with GPS vehicle tracking technology, two-way radios, and onboard camera systems. The fleet will also allow parents to use the SafeStop school bus tracking app.
The Georgia-based OEM is set to take on Girardin Group’s stake in the 50/50 Micro Bird joint venture. The change will consolidate the two businesses under one brand, one team, and one approach.
