Student Hit By Pickup Truck While Waiting At School Bus Stop

The Maine student is preparing to get on the bus when he is struck by the vehicle. Police say the bus's flashing lights were not activated at the time of the incident.

FARMINGTON, Maine — A six-year-old student was struck by a pickup truck while waiting for his school bus here on Monday morning, police said.

Officer Ryan Rosie of the Farmington Police Department told News Center Maine that the student was about to get on the bus when he was struck by the vehicle. Officers added that the school bus was stopped at the time of the incident but did not have its flashing lights activated. The student was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for an apparent leg injury, according to the news source.

Rosie told News Center Maine that the student "should be fine," and that there are no charges against the driver of the pickup truck at this time. Mt. Blue Regional School District confirmed in a Facebook post that all other students were "safe and in school" when the incident occurred.

Tina Meserve, the district's superintendent, told the news source that Mt. Blue Regional School District owns its bus fleet and that the bus involved in the incident was equipped with a video surveillance camera that police are reviewing as part of their investigation. Meserve also said that the district will be evaluating all of its safety protocols following the incident, according to WMTW.
