Special-Needs School Bus Involved in 4-Vehicle Crash
A California school bus with seven special-needs students aboard strikes a Ford Mustang, the Mustang strikes a Ford Sienna, and the bus continues on and hits a Honda Odyssey. No students are injured.
LAKE FOREST, Calif. — Authorities said that a school bus with seven special-needs students aboard was involved in a four-vehicle collision on Tuesday, The Orange County Register reports.
California Highway Patrol (CHP) Sgt. Phil Apodaca told the newspaper that the bus was traveling westbound, on the way to Olivewood Elementary School when it apparently struck a Ford Mustang heading south, the Mustang struck a Toyota Sienna, and the bus continued on and hit a Honda Odyssey. The driver of the Honda Odyssey told The Orange County Register that the school bus didn’t see the Mustang, and “The school bus was coming right (at) me.” She added that she and her family have seen multiple accidents at the intersection where the crash occurred.
Apodaca added that the drivers of the Toyota Sienna and the Mustang suffered moderate injuries and a passenger in the back seat of the Toyota Sienna was taken to the hospital, but no students were injured.
Apodaca also told the newspaper that no citations were issued on Tuesday. However, Tammy Blakely, a spokeswoman for the Saddleback Valley Unified School District, said that the bus driver will be prohibited from driving for the district pending the outcome of the CHP’s investigation into the crash.
