This is the fourth year in a row that school bus sales have increased. The total for the 2015 sales year (Nov. 1, 2014, to Oct. 31, 2015) was 40,190 units, according to data collected from the school bus manufacturers.
Just four years earlier, in 2011, school bus sales in the U.S. and Canada had hit a low point of 29,060 units.
The 2015 school bus sales total of 40,190 units is the highest mark since 2007, when the total was 40,513.
Type C (aka conventional) school buses continue to make up the majority of sales. In 2015, more than two-thirds (70%) of the school buses sold in the U.S. and Canada were Type Cs.
Type A (small) school buses accounted for 19% of the total sales in 2015, and the remaining 11% were Type D (or transit-style) school buses.
A detailed school bus sales report will appear in School Bus Fleet’s upcoming 2016 Fact Book.
