PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND, Canada — A school bus driver here is making a fourth trip to Peru to bring about $15,000 worth of donated items to needy children as part of a charity he launched, CBC News reports.
Tiger Melhem initially went to Peru in 2007 to convalesce after a car accident, according to the news outlet. After giving some money to begging children while he was there, he watched as they went to a nearby store and bought shoes. That inspired him to launch his charity, Help a Kid Wear Shoes in Peru.
The charity has grown beyond donating shoes, CBC News reports. The items Melhem is bringing to Peru this time include medical supplies, soccer balls, T-shirts and school supplies.
