HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — A school bus driver here helped a woman who boarded his bus while in the middle of a domestic violence situation last week, WSAZ reports.

When a mother who was carrying a child boarded school bus driver Shane Evans’ bus without permission, didn’t respond to his request to exit the bus, and was followed and threatened by a man police said was her boyfriend, Evans quickly read the situation, according to the news source.

Evans told WSAZ that he used his training. He stood in the aisle, blocking the man from the students on board, used his radio to call for help and left the button down so drivers could hear what was happening, and told the man to leave the bus and that he would make sure the woman was right behind him. He then closed the doors when the man left and sped off. He only stopped at the last three bus stops to tell students and parents to go back home due to an emergency situation. He dropped the students, who were not harmed, off at school, and he and the woman spoke with the police.
