School bus driver picks up stranded Israeli journalists

NEW YORK — An SUV carrying an Israeli press corps here last week ran out of gas in a tunnel, but the journalists caught a ride on a school bus.
The press corps was in New York for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech to the U.N. General Assembly. According to an account of the incident by Raphael Ahren from The Times of Israel, after the SUV came to a halt in the tunnel, the group got out and eventually stopped a yellow school bus.
Ahren reported that there were no passengers on the school bus except for the driver’s “companion” (probably a bus monitor), and the driver agreed to shuttle the journalists to the U.N. Interestingly, the school bus driver, whom Ahren called “our guardian angel driver,” was a Jewish-Russian immigrant to the U.S. who spoke some Hebrew.
