School bus camera reportedly catches cop assault on student
A 16-year-old student suspected of being involved in an on-campus fight was removed from a school bus with the help of the campus police officer. The student was taken to the hospital, and the cop was put on desk duty. Footage is being reviewed by the district attorney.
HOUSTON — The Harris County district attorney's office is reviewing video tape from a school bus camera that reportedly captured an incident in which a Houston Independent School District (ISD) police officer allegedly assaulted a student.
The 16-year-old student got on the bus after he was suspected of being involved in an on-campus fight, the Houston Chroniclereports. A school administrator then sought the officer's help in removing the student from the bus.
Houston ISD police chief Jimmie Dotson instigated an investigation after reviewing the tape. A community activist told the Chronicle the student was taken to a hospital with multiple jaw fractures. The officer involved in the incident has been stripped of police authority and placed on desk duty.
