ALBANY, N.Y. — Several scholarships for the 2012 National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT) Summit and student field trips are available through the association.

NAPT Past President Dr. Linda Bluth and her partner, Betsy Eisman, have endowed an annual grant that will enable NAPT members to help bring learning to life for students in their community and enhance classroom studies in their school program.

In 2009, Bluth and Eisman committed $500 a year for 10 years to cover the cost of transportation, entry fees, supplies and classroom resource materials so that teachers may continue using the experiential learning gained from math and science, language, social studies and arts-focused field trips.

This year, preference will be given to applications that serve students with disabilities attending schools in the states of West Virginia, Kentucky, Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina and Georgia, although the award will be discretionary.

Peter Lawrence, director of transportation for Fairport (N.Y.) Central School District, and his wife, Linda, have created a scholarship that will help four school bus driver trainers or front-line supervisors who work for a school district or private school bus company to attend the annual NAPT Summit this year from Oct. 20-25 in Memphis, Tenn.

The scholarships will cover the conference registration fee.

Finally, Zonar Systems has donated 10 scholarships for attendance to the NAPT Summit. Each scholarship will cover the cost of one conference registration.

Zonar has also made available a $50,000 grant for the latest school bus security, safety and efficiency equipment. Officials said the award will go to the school district that submits the best proposal for utilizing Zonar’s fleet management solutions, including its Electronic Vehicle Inspection Reporting system.

For additional details on all of the scholarships and grants, go to www.naptonline.org.
