REI, Velvac offer integrated surveillance system
The solution combines REI’s BUS-WATCH mobile video surveillance system and Velvac’s camera-based Vision systems. Officials say it is designed to improve driver and passenger safety by enabling users to record more viewing angles around a vehicle.
OMAHA, Neb. — Radio Engineering Industries Inc. (REI) has partnered with Velvac Inc. to integrate its BUS-WATCH mobile video surveillance system and Velvac’s camera-based Vision systems.
Company officials said that the integrated solution is designed to improve driver and passenger safety, mitigate risk and provide external vehicle assistance on transit, shuttle and school buses by enabling users to record more viewing angles around a vehicle.
REI’s BUS-WATCH system provides video evidence of the activities occurring on and around a vehicle. BUS-WATCH collects video and audio through strategically positioned, high-resolution cameras with built-in microphones. The system includes a digital video recorder and REI’s user-friendly software for viewing a vehicle’s location and activities.
Velvac’s Vision systems integrate advanced CMOS cameras into the external mirror housing to offer an enhanced field of view and better visual clarity in all traffic and weather conditions. It provides the driver with dedicated views of blind spots and passing lanes around the vehicle by positioning the camera closer to the optimal height and width as identified by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Officials said this provides the driver with an intuitive visual experience that improves safety and reduces the potential for accidents.
