KAMLOOPS, British Columbia — The local school district’s board of trustees is upset about the possibility of charging school bus ridership fees to address a budget shortfall, The Daily News reports.

In a board meeting on Monday, members heard during a report from the transportation funding review committee various options to help close the $300,000 to $500,000 shortfall Kamloops-Thompson School District No. 73 has faced every year for nearly a decade.

Art MacDonald, director of facilities and transportation, outlined what finances would look like if all 3,629 riders were charged $100 a year. According to The Daily News, the fee suggestion led trustees to call for outreach to area members of the legislative assembly to push for a review of the province’s formula that is used to determine busing needs, which they say is hurting their constituents.
