Power Lines Fall on School Bus, Driver Trapped for Hours
The North Carolina driver is unable to leave her bus for five hours after power lines fall on it as the area is hit by Tropical Storm Michael.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A school bus driver here was trapped when power lines fell on her bus while she was dropping off students on Thursday afternoon as the area was besieged by Tropical Storm Michael, WFMY reports.
One student was aboard the bus at the time of the incident, and left without permission from the driver, according to the news source. Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools officials told WFMY that the driver stayed on the bus until the fire department arrived. Firefighters consider the downed power lines to be a hazardous condition, and the bus driver wasn’t able to leave the bus until conditions were determined to be safe, which was about five hours later.
