BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — A school district here recently received grant funding to purchase new school bus camera systems for all 13 of its buses, the Sentinel-Tribune reports.

Adam Koch, superintendent for Otsego Local Schools, told the school board at its meeting last week that the district was awarded a $40,000 grant from the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation to upgrade its school bus camera systems, according to the newspaper.

The camera systems, totaling $47,963, will include three cameras on each bus and an additional camera on each bus’s stop arm, according to the newspaper.

Koch told the board, according to the Sentinel-Tribune, that “it’s a really unsafe situation that people are just constantly in a hurry and think that they can pass school buses with a stop arm out.” He also said, according to the newspaper, that the cameras will help capture motorists who illegally pass school buses, and that the footage and information obtained from the cameras will be submitted to authorities.
