NTSB Webinar to Cover Role of Video Recorders in Reducing Crashes

Federal safety investigators and fleet owners will discuss video recorders and their role in improving safety during a webinar next month.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will present the one-hour webinar, titled “Reducing CMV [Commercial Motor Vehicle] Crashes Through the Use of Video Recorders,” on Sept. 13 at 2 p.m. Eastern time.

Investigators and recorder analysts from NTSB's Office of Highway Safety and Office of Research and Engineering, along with commercial fleet owners from the truck and bus industries, will explain why and how their organizations use video recorders to improve safety.

NTSB said that the speakers will discuss lessons learned from accident investigations and provide case studies on how companies use data from cameras to review driver and vehicle performance, and to make modifications to safety plans.

NTSB has said that video recorders are often the best way to determine what happened in a crash. The agency has included ”Expand Recorder Use to Enhance Safety” on its “Most Wanted List” of transportation safety improvements.

The webinar will be broadcast live, and attendees will be able to ask questions of NTSB Member Bella Dinh-Zarr, NTSB investigators, and corporate safety directors.
