ALBANY, N.Y. — A new director of pupil transportation services has been named in New York state following the recent retirement of Marion Edick. 

Mary Faherty Sansaricq has been appointed to the role, which officials said is in recognition of her service in the New York State Education Department's Pupil Transportation Unit and Office of Educational Management Services, membership on the governor’s Traffic Safety Committee and stewardship of the commissioner’s School Bus Driver Instructor Advisory Committee. 

Sansaricq has more than 20 years’ experience as an educator and administrator, and officials noted that she brings a “wealth of professional and personal knowledge, skills and experience to help guide the pupil transportation community of New York.”

As SBF reported last month, Marion Edick retired on Dec. 30 following a 37-year carrier in public service.

During Edick’s tenure as New York state’s director of pupil transportation serivces, physical performance tests for school bus drivers were implemented and several programs were developed through the $400,000 training fund, including master instructor trainings and continuation of the PDS program.

In addition, statutorily required training regarding special-needs students, and for school bus attendants and monitors, was implemented.
