AURORA, Neb. — Aurora Public Schools has reduced its bus stops from 100 to 70 in an effort to make routes more efficient and reduce fuel costs.
In one area, the number of stops was reduced from one every block to one every two to three blocks, according to Transportation Director Gerad Olsen, the Aurora News-Register reports. This reduces wear and tear on the buses, Olsen said.
The school board also briefly considered ending in-town bus routes to cut costs, but ultimately opted to keep the service in place.
In addition, the board reviewed Beatrice (Neb.) Public Schools' system of charging a flat rate per child and the issuance of identification cards to be used with Transfinder software, but no changes have yet been made.
